Amicalola Falls State Park

At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is Georgia's highest waterfall and the beginning of a rather long hike for most Appalachian Trail thru-hikers. Along with several short options to enjoy the falls, Amicalola Falls State Park begins the 8-mile approach trail to Springer Mountain and the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. If visiting the park for the falls, make sure to get there early or on a weekday, but even then expect crowds.

Trek along a rushing creek, climb an endless amount of steps to cross below the falls, and take in lengthy views from the top of the falls. You'll also travel along the official AT approach trail that leads to Springer Mountain.

Staying on a paved path, hike to the base of Amicalola Falls while travelling along a scenic creek. This is the most popular section of trail in the park.

Avoid some of the crowds by connecting with several trails along the west side of the park to form a loop that also includes walking to the base of the falls.
