Explore the shores of Allatoona Lake on hikes ranging from short and easy to quite difficult. Red Top Mountain State Park may be the most known in the area, but explore around for some of the best metro Atlanta trails in the area.
Enjoy lake shore views as you explore the more relaxed hiking trails within Red Top Mountain State Park. Both the Homestead Loop and the Iron Hill Loop offer several miles of trails that grant close up views of Allatoona Lake.
Pine Mountain recreation area is comprised of two loops that join together at the summit. The West Loop is by far the more popular route. With a large parking lot and easy access right off I-75, this is where most people start their hike. The less traveled East Loop will give you a bit of solitude in comparison. Do both loops for a longer hike. Bikes are allowed on the East Loop on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Cooper's Furnace Day Use Area has a small network of trails perfect for small kids or those that enjoy some historical landmarks and information signs. For something more challenging, connect Cooper's Furnace with Pine Mountain for one of the best hikes in the metro Atlanta area.
The most difficult trails around Allatoona Lake, hiking up to Vineyard Mountain will definitely get your heart pumping. Just don't expect much of a view. Hike the long route from Bethany Bridge or make a shorter double loop from Riverside Day Use Area.
