Looking for a relaxed walk in the woods? Long Branch Loop may be the trail for you. A relatively flat 2-mile loop, this hike crosses over Long Branch creek twice and keeps you in the shade for an enjoyable easy hike in the summer months. Great for young kids and dogs. Mountain bikes are allowed along this loop as well.
Begin the hike at the end of the parking lot at the information sign. Several side trails leave the parking lot but connect to the main path pretty quickly, but stay on the official trail.
At .17 miles the trail splits, forming the loop. You can take either direction, but the elevation graph below is for staying left, hiking clockwise around the loop. There are two other intersections. One at the sign for the Green Mountain Trail and one unmarked and unblazed intersection. Either direction you're hiking, stay to the inside of the loop.
The hike is mostly level with minor elevation changes making it perfect for a relaxed walk or to take young kids. You'll cross over Long Branch Creek twice. Once over a wood bridge and once over a land bridge. So no rock hoping required. At 1.8 miles if going clockwise, you'll see a side trail on the left and the remnants of an old homestead. Mostly just the chimney is left now.
If you're looking for something longer and more difficult, try Flat Creek Loop just across the road.
