Take a short and simple hike to this impressive rock formation in Prentice Cooper State Forest just outside of Chattanooga, TN. Pass through the tight Stone Door staircase between the rocks to the base of the Indian Rockhouse overhang. An easy outing good for families and doggos.
From the trailhead at the Cumberland Trail Parking Lot, cross Tower Drive heading east. The trail travels gently downhill, crossing a dirt road at a third of a mile in. Continuing on, the trail comes to the top of Indian Rockhouse at half a mile. Head down the Stone Door, a narrow stairway between the crack in the rocks. At the bottom you'll reach the base of the large rock overhang of Indian Rockhouse. This is also the intersection with the Cumberland trail in either direction.
If you want an longer hike, continue to the right for a 6.2 mile hike to Snooper's Rock and back or the 9.3 mile Mullens Cove Loop.
