Enjoy an easy walk along a peaceful lake at James "Sloppy" Floyd State Park with the Lower Lake Loop trail. The park also offers more difficult hikes, boat and canoe rentals, fishing, and playgrounds.
Begin this hike at the park office parking lot. Be sure to pick up a free map in the office. While there is a trail directly along the lake shore, it is narrow and almost non-existent in places. Most people just head down the road at the end of the parking lot which still follows the lake shore within 20 feet.
At the end of the road, continue across the grassy field following the lake's edge. The official red blazed Lower Lake Trail begins on the other side of the lake. This path follows the lake shore closely as well, but this path is wide and easily traveled. A single side trail heads up the hill toward the campgrounds.
The trail ends at Sloppy Floyd Lake Road. Follow the road back to the parking lot to end this loop. If you want a little longer hike, try the Marble Mine Trail or Upper Lake Loop or even the more difficult 4 mile Marble Mine Loop.
