The Lake Trail at Fort Mountain State Park is the easiest of the trails offered, travelling around Fort Mountain Lake on a flat, easy to follow path. Views of the lake and access to the playground and swimming area make this a nice family hike.
I hiked this trail after the Big Rock Trail so I began at that parking lot. There is a much larger lot on the way in by the playground and beach area if you wish to begin there. From the Big Rock Trail lot, walk back down the road a few feet to the unmarked path heading down to the lake.
From here you can go around either direction, following the mostly gravel blue-blazed trail. A few red-blazed side trails branch off, one of which adds the Goldmine Creek Trail.
The only real directional notes are at the beach and pavilion area the trail disappears. Walk up toward the parking lot, around the beach and pavilion, then back to the lake's edge. Other than this, enjoy views of the lake on this easy quiet trail.
