Sunset Rock

Score an amazing view from Sunset Rock on the west face of Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga on this short easy hike that won't leave you too hot and sweaty. An great option if you're just passing through town and want to grab a quick view. Bring the dog and the kids!

The parking lot is small with only 9 parking spots. The sign says 9 but at best I'd say 8 and a half. The rock-paved trail immediately begins to descend. I'm not sure why they laid down rock along the entire trail, if wet I can imagine it becoming quite hazardous.

After a short tenth of a mile, the trail ends at the open rock ledge of Sunset Rock. From here you'll get 180-degree views toward west Chattanooga, the Tennessee River Gorge and Prentice Cooper State Forest. From here, other trails connect giving you lots of options for longer hikes starting from here. For a longer adventure, try hiking the route to Sunset Rock from Point Park along the Bluff Trail.

Short But Amazing

You can barely consider this a hike, but for a tenth of a mile walk done a paved path you'll be treated with an amazing view from Sunset Rock. A great short stop if you don't have time for a longer hike. Well worth the drive up Lookout Mountain.
